Nurturing Self-Care For Stress Awareness Month: A Guide for Busy Mums to Calm The Chaos

Posted by Natalie Dawson on

Hey, I’m Natalie, the founder of Awesome Botanical, and if you are a busy mum trying to navigate all of the stress and anxiety that comes with managing *all of the things* then I’m right there with you in this whirlwind journey of motherhood. As a new mum myself, I understand the challenges of balancing the demands of parenthood with the need to take care of ourselves. With April being Stress Awareness Month, it's the perfect opportunity to explore simple self-care practices that can help us navigate the rollercoaster of emotions and responsibilities with more ease, in a perfectly unperfect way, because let’s face it, there is too much perfection being rammed down our throats on a daily basis making even self care something that feels like a pressure!

1. Start Your Day Right:

As a new mum, mornings can feel like a mad rush. However, carving out just a few minutes for yourself can make a world of difference. Before diving into the day's tasks, take a moment to stretch, practise deep breathing, or enjoy a peaceful cup of tea. Starting your day with a dose of self-care sets a positive tone and helps you tackle whatever comes your way with a calmer mind.

2. Embrace Mini Moments of Mindfulness:

Amidst the chaos of nappy changes and feedings, finding moments of mindfulness can feel like a challenge. Yet, it's in these small pockets of time that we can find that inner strength for when it all just gets a bit too much. Whether it's savouring the warmth of a cuddle, taking a mindful breath while rocking your little one to sleep, or simply pausing to appreciate the beauty of your baby's smile, these mini moments of presence can help ground us and reduce stress. Parenting expert and mentor Rachel Brydon comments that embracing every opportunity to bond with your child should be prioritised over all the other noise around you. “There will always be opportunities to clean and scroll on your phone, but there will not always be opportunities to just be with your child. Take every chance you can to create a strong bond with your little one. It is an investment that really is self care at a fundamental level”.

    3. Pamper Your Feet:

As new mums, we spend a ridiculous amount of time on our feet, whether pacing the floor with a fussy baby or doing the jobs (that are never ending). That's why it's essential to show our feet some love. Why not treat yourself to a foot care pamper session using my Foot Care Pamper Set from my own brand Awesome Botanical. Honestly, the power of spending ten minutes to let the stresses of the day melt away as you soak your feet in warm, aromatic water and indulge in the soothing sensation of our nourishing foot cream will rejuvenate and replenish your soul. It is a weekly practice that I never miss now I am a Mum! Your tired feet will thank you, and you'll feel like you have indulged yourself, even from the comfort of your living room

      4. Indulge in Luxurious Moisture:

Between sleepless nights and endless nappy changes, our skin can take a beating. Give it some care by taking a few minutes out of the day to inject some moisture into your skin. Whether you do it straight after jumping out of the shower or as a prebedtime ritual , your body needs and deserves it! Our range of body butters at Awesome Botanical are perfect for this. Made with natural ingredients, these luxurious body butters hydrate and nourish your skin, leaving it feeling soft, smooth, and pampered. Take a moment to massage the butter into your skin, savouring the indulgent scent and the blissful sensation of self-care – even better, get your partner to do it for you!

        5. Prioritise Rest and Relaxation:

As new mums, we often feel pressured to be constantly on the go, but it's essential to prioritise rest and relaxation for our well-being. Whether it's stealing a few moments for a power nap while baby sleeps, indulging in a bubble bath after bedtime, or simply taking a moment to close your eyes and breathe deeply, honouring your need for rest is crucial for managing stress and maintaining your sanity. I have recently been given a gorgeous mindfulness journal, and it is a practice I am trying to incorporate into my daily routine as I find it really calms my mind and any anxieties that I am feeling. It can be so tempting to pick up the phone and “doom scroll”, but I would really encourage you to find activities that give your brain a break!
