10 Self-Care Tips for Surviving Autumn (and Beating the Dry-Skin Blues!)

As the leaves turn golden and the nights draw in, autumn brings all the cosy vibes we love — but it can also bring chilly winds, central heating, and the dreaded dry-skin season. If your skin starts to feel tight, flaky, or dull as the seasons change, it’s time to upgrade your self-care routine.

Here are  my Top 10 autumn self-care tips that will keep your skin soft, smooth, and glowing — featuring our favourite whipped soaps, body butters, hand balms, lip balms, and even a DIY body scrub.

1. Start your day with a whipped soap ritual

Say goodbye to harsh soaps and hello to luxurious whipped soap. Its creamy texture cleanses without stripping your skin, leaving it silky-soft and lightly scented — perfect for autumn mornings when your skin needs a little extra love.

Top Tip: Look for whipped soaps with nourishing oils like apricot kernel oil for maximum hydration.

2. Lock in moisture with rich body butter

After your shower, apply a rich body butter while your skin is still slightly damp. This seals in moisture and keeps skin feeling soft all day, no matter how cold or windy it gets outside.

Top Tip: Shea butter and cocoa butter are autumn’s skin-saving heroes — they’re rich, creamy, and perfect for repairing dry, rough patches such as our Calm Body Butter

3. Buff away dullness with a homemade autumn body scrub

A DIY sugar scrub is the easiest way to tackle dry, flaky skin. Mix brown sugar with coconut oil and add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for the ultimate seasonal glow-up.

Top Tip: Use your scrub once or twice a week, followed by body butter, to keep your skin soft and smooth.

4. Show your hands some TLC with a nourishing hand balm

Hands often suffer the most in autumn — between cold weather and constant washing, they can get dry fast. A rich hand balm will protect and repair your skin, keeping them soft and hydrated.

Top Tip: Apply before bed and let it work its magic overnight, I like to apply Hazy Mauve Hand Balm and inhale the calming lavender scents as I drift off to sleep.

5. Don’t forget your lips — DIY lip scrub + balm

Chapped lips? Not on our watch. A simple lip scrub (sugar + honey + coconut oil) followed by a hydrating lip balm will keep your pout smooth and kissably soft.

Top Tip: Apply a lip balm such as Minty Cocoa for a plumping affect to your lips

6. Keep showers short and sweet

Long, hot showers feel amazing when it’s cold outside, but they can dry out your skin. Stick to lukewarm water, use gentle cleansers like whipped soap, and moisturise immediately after to prevent moisture loss.

7. Add autumn scents for a mood boost

Self-care isn’t just about soft skin — it’s about lifting your mood, too. Seasonal scents like cinnamon, orange, and clove can turn your bathroom into a cosy autumn spa. Add them to your DIY scrubs or look for products infused with these warming aromas such as our Autumn Whipped Soap Range.

8. Stay hydrated inside and out

It’s easy to forget water when the weather cools down, but hydration is key to glowing skin. Combine plenty of water with hydrating skincare — like body butters and balms — for the best results.

9. Combine self-care with nature time

Autumn walks are the perfect way to boost your mood and get some fresh air. When you get home, turn your bathroom into a mini spa — think whipped soap, body butter, cosy illustrated candle, and a DIY scrub — to make the most of that post-walk glow.

10. Rotate your rituals for ultimate self-care

Keep things exciting by switching up your routine. One day use your scrub, the next day focus on hand balm, then treat your lips. Mixing it up keeps self-care feeling like a treat rather than a chore.

My final Thoughts for surviving Autumn

Autumn doesn’t have to mean dry, dull skin. With the right whipped soaps, body butters, hand balms, lip balms, and a few DIY treats, you can keep your skin soft, glowing, and protected all season long.

Make these autumn self-care tips part of your weekly routine — your skin (and your mood!) will thank you.
